Job Overview:
The Associate Chemist will coordinate program efforts under supervision of a senior chemist. Activities will include participating in planning sessions, organizing work to be accomplished, submitting and coordinating work requests, assembling and analyzing data, and writing and presenting the final accomplishments.

Responsibilities:
60% - Chemical analyses, routine syntheses, tests and experiments where procedures are well established and guidance is readily available. Will require working with energetic materials associated with the manufacturing of solid rocket motors.

20% - Performs a variety of routine chemistry tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the chemistry staff and programs, methods and practices of the organization.

10% - Completes laboratory notebooks and writes reports to document findings in approved format.

10% - May assign work to laboratory support personnel.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Material Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of Chemistry required. Demonstrated understanding of chemical principles (Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Thermodynamics) required. Ability to perform higher order mathematics (Algebra II/Calculus) on a routine basis required. Must be proficient in MicroSoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. This position requires a good understanding and use of computer routines and well as good writing and communication skills. Understanding and use of process and analytical equipment pertinent to the appropriate application of skills is necessary. Must be able to work in a laboratory environment with chemicals and may be required to participate in the respirator program.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
